Did You Get A New Puppy?

It’s almost summer! The days are getting warmer, businesses are opening back up again and that new puppy you got while you were at home is ready to greet the world! And when he does, it’s important that he is well socialized with people, other dogs and all his new surroundings.

Some “Must Do’s” for puppy socialization:

  • Introduce your puppy to seeing different and unfamiliar objects. Things like: umbrellas, bags, masks, boxes, the vacuum cleaner, etc; anything and everything you want your puppy to be comfortable with and around. Encourage your puppy to explore and investigate his environment.

  • Practice leaving the house for short increments of time, while puppy stays safely in the crate.

  • If you can, safely invite all types of friends (men, women, youngsters, oldsters, different ethnic backgrounds, etc.) over to meet your pup.

  • Invite friendly, healthy, vaccinated dogs, puppies and even dog-friendly cats to your home to meet and play with your new puppy.

  • Introduce your puppy to new and various sounds. Loud, obnoxious sounds should be introduced from a distance and gradually brought closer. Give praise when they ignore any of these scary sounds.

  • Accustom your puppy to being brushed, bathed, inspected, having its nails clipped, teeth and ears cleaned and all the routines of grooming and physical examination.

Doggie daycare can be a great way to safely introduce your new baby to a diverse group of well socialized dogs. At Stone Dog Inn, we offer a half day daycare option which is the perfect amount of time for a new puppy just getting started!

We can also help recommend trainers, food, treats and supplements to help your newest addition stay happy and healthy.
